#ThursdayExpressions: Coming Home

#ThursdayExpressions is your weekly invitation to dance online. This Thursday, we will respond to the gentle call to “Come Home”.

What is home for you? Does it elicit a sense of place or of people? Is it a village, country or continent, a community or a family? Perhaps you straddle two homes - one where you live and one that your heart yearns for. Does coming home require commitment or does it spark celebration?

Through the Expressive Movement wave, we will investigate how it feels to come home to ourselves, and this moving, breathing body of ours. We’ll find out what is present within us, what can expand and what can be released. Then we’ll dream into our full homecoming potential, and open to integration. In this way, we can explore how to be at home in our body, wherever we go, and whomsoever we are with.

For those new to the practice: Expressive Movement is a somatic meditation, enabling a greater sense of presence and freedom. With music, and through a moving mindfulness practice, we are able to activate conscious awareness, creative action and authentic connection. The five phase practice, founded by Sian Palmer (@dancingsian) begins with a gentle warm up, and then moves through a deeper listening into our present experience, expressing what is moving through us, and then releasing, dreaming into new possibilities, and finally opening to a sense of integration.

#ThursdayExpressions are a drop-in movement meditation class facilitated by an Expressive Movement facilitator. In this hour-long class, your Lucy Draper-Clarke (@lucyheartmind) will guide you to follow your body’s way through an Expressive Movement Wave using a curated music set. These weekly classes have been hosted since Expressive Movement’s conception in 2009 and are home to a growing community of dancers.

Join us online to dance in real time every Thursday at 18:30pm SAST (16:30 UTC). All are welcome. No previous experience is needed. We were made to dance.
