Creatures of the Light

In early December, #Thursday Expressions will let you imagine that you are on the roof of Johannesburg. In order to celebrate community, and to raise money for the Brixton Light Festival, this unique online event offers you the chance to dance with a city view in mind. Dress up! Brighten up! Become a Creature of the Light!

In 2020, this community-led parade of lights lifted our spirits and reminded us what it means to come together, in between life's challenging waves. This year promises to be even more adventurous and enlightening, with a series of events and activities, coordinated by the Brixton Community Forum (BCF) and @Shade.Brixton. They will culminate in a street festival, postponed from December to February 2022.

During the curated music set, on Thursday 2nd December, you are invited to follow your body’s impulse to move. Expressive Movement is an embodied practice of self-exploration, a movement meditation. There are no choreographed steps. No getting it right or wrong. All that is required is that you stay present and listen for how your body wants to move. No prior dance experience is needed. We were made to dance. We are Creatures of the Light! Everybody is welcome.

You are invited to gather in the Zoom room from 6.15pm. The class ‪starts at 6:30 pm.

Classes are offered on a sliding scale. Please select according to what feels right for you at this time and be in touch if you need a further discount. You will receive the Zoom link after purchasing your ticket.
